A company is the business your contacts work for. It holds the account: everyone who works there, the deals, the sales, and the whole history in one place.
Create one from Companies, or straight from a contact with Create company, which fills it in from what that contact already told you.
What to fill in
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Company Name | How the business is recognised everywhere else. Use the trading name your team would say out loud. |
| Website | Feeds the enrichment tools — research, social links and reputation all start from it. |
| Assigned To | Who owns the account. An unassigned company appears on nobody's dashboard. |
| Lead Source | Where the account came from. Set it now; nobody reconstructs it later. |
| Address | Used by the phone finder and reputation lookups to pick the right listing. |
Companies belong to a tribe
Each tribe keeps its own company records. Two of your tribes dealing with the same national chain each hold their own version of it, with their own contacts, their own deals and their own notes — which is what stops one tribe seeing another's account.
Before you create, search
Within a tribe, a company should exist once. The CRM matches on the business name when records arrive by import, but a name typed slightly differently by hand — "Smith & Sons" against "Smith and Sons Ltd" — will create a second record.
