Styling the store and building its pages

download Download PDF

A branded store should look like the client's shop, not like yours. The style tab carries their logo and colours; the pages carry their words.

Style

  • Use the client's own logo, on a background that suits it — a logo built for white paper disappears on a dark header.
  • Take the colours from their brand rather than approximating them.
  • Check it on a phone. Most orders are placed on one.

Pages

Each page has a name, a slug, a heading, a sub-heading and its content. One page must be set as the home page — the store will ask you to choose one.

PageWhy it earns its place
HomeWhat this shop is, who it is for, and how ordering works.
Sizing or specificationRemoves most of the questions your team would otherwise answer by email.
Delivery and deadlinesWhen orders are made and when they arrive — the second most asked question.
ContactWho to ask, so they ask the right person.

Write the home page for a first-time buyer

Most people who land on a branded store have been sent a link and have no idea what to expect. Three sentences — what this is, who can order, when it arrives — prevents most of the support that follows.

THE INTRODUCTION TEXT IS READ; THE REST IS SKIMMED
Put the deadline and the delivery expectation at the top. Anything below the first products will be found by almost nobody.
